The Covid-19 clouds are breaking and we are excited to get back to what we do best, our In-Person, Runner's Den Fall Training Program. It will be great to be getting together again and preparing for two of the Valley's top Fall road races, the 3TV Phoenix 10K/Half Marathon/5K on November 7th and the Runner's Den Scottsdale Half Marathon on December 12th, 2021.
As an alumni, you all know what our Fall training program is about and we hope you are going to be able to join us this season. As the program participant total will again be capped, we are sending you this notice prior to our general public announcements. When registering, be sure to use the link at the bottom of this page to receive the discounted fee.
TRAINING PROGRAM OUTLINE
We offer a 10K and three different levels of half marathon training programs, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Please note, these titles refer to experience level at the ½ marathon distance, not speed or relative competitiveness. Our goals are to help you develop on a healthy, injury free trajectory. With our experience, we sincerely believe this is the best supervised program available in Arizona.
10K Program: Qualifications: Can run/walk 1-2 miles with 50% running and has set a goal of completing a 6.2 mile (10K) running event. Perhaps you have walked in a couple of 5K events, maybe not.
Beginner Half Marathon Program: Qualifications: Can you run/walk 3 miles with 80% running and have you set a goal of completing a 13.1 half marathon event. Perhaps you have participated in a few shorter events, maybe not. Finish time is of no consequence. We consider this a minimum starting point. If you are not quite here yet, perhaps try the 10K Training Program we offer. Program consists of approx. 185-200 total miles of preparation. At 11 minute pace, approximately 35 hours of running over the 11 week training schedule. Approximately 3 - 3.5 hours running per week.
Intermediate Half Marathon Program: Qualifications: Has successfully run a minimum of (2) half marathon events Can run 5 miles non-stop and has the goal of running the half marathon event non-stop at a conversational pace. Program consists of approx. 230-250 total miles of preparation. At 10 minute pace, approximately 40 hours of running over the 11 week training schedule. Approximately 3.5 - 4 hours running per week.
Advanced Half Marathon Program: Qualifications: Has successfully run a minimum of (4) half marathon events Can run 8 miles non-stop at a conversational pace and has the goal of running the half marathon distance event at your 8K/10K PR pace. Program consists of approx. 260-285 total miles of preparation. At 9 minute pace, approximately 40-45 hours of running over the 11 week training schedule. Approximately 3.8 - 4.3 hours running per week.
We consider each of the programs outlined above the minimum amount of time/distance you need to be willing to invest in order to be successful within that program. The outlined times/distances do not include daily warm-up, stretching, cool down, post workout stretching, cross training, coffee consumption or pre-workout rituals.

2021 TRAINING PROGRAM FEATURES
- (1) Free entry into any of the 3TV Phoenix 10K/Half Marathon/5K events
- $100/$125.00 credit at Runner’s Den. $100.00 credit when applied to any regularly priced gear in the store or $125.00 credit applied to any regularly priced New Balance shoe, purchased by November 15, 2021.
- (1) discounted entry into the Runner's Den Scottsdale Half Marathon on December 12th, 2021.
- (1) $22 entry into the 43rd annual Runner’s Den Pancake Run on February 13th, 2022, Race is limited to the first 2,000 entrants and fills fast. This guarantees you a spot if you register prior to race filling.
- A 12 week, training program, beginning August 14th, 2021. 10K program and Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels for the 1/2 Marathon are offered online for you to follow.
- Weekly supervised training runs, starting at Runner's Den. Water stations and course marking will be provided. (each Saturday morning starting at 6am)
- Weekly email correspondence with program updates, reference materials and articles.
