Run for Boston Mural

The tragic events that occurred at the finishline of the 2013 Boston Marathon hit us very close to home. In memory and in honor of the three victims of the bombing (Martin Richard (age 8), Krystle Campbell (age 29) and Lingzi Lu (age 23), Runner’s Den friends and family gathered and ran a memorial three miles. The event was free to all, but we solicited donations and sold raffle tickets and shirts in an effort to raise money for OneFundBoston.org. The Arizona running community responded with overwhelming generosity and we were able to send a donation of more than $7,500.
In the face of tragedy, we celebrated life. It was a fun run with friends. There were no clocks, no chips, no pace groups and no competition. We honored the memory of the Boston Marathon bombing victims, we raised money to help the survivors and we celebrated the sport which binds us all together. The mural above was painted on the side of our building as a permanent reminder to all of us.
Thanks to Asics, Adidas, Brooks, Mizuno, New Balance, Nike and Saucony for donating prizes for the raffle. Thanks to Papa John’s and Taco Bell for donating food, and Widmer Brewery for donating the beer. Most importantly, thanks to each and every one of you that participated.
